Timeline JS
Below is a timeline of Hawaiian History as a whole: including the Polynesian arrival, banishment of hula and colonization of the Hawaiian people.
Understanding the history of Hawaii gives a deeper understanding as to how Hawaiian culture has been tainted over time and stresses the importance of why the education of Hawaiian culture is so important.

Transcription Analysis
Below is a transcription analysis of the audio used in my project. The language identified was Maori and below is the output of the audio transcription code used in python.

After comparing to an authentic transcription of my audio the final error count rate was 1.0. This tells me that there are little to no errors between the original audio transcription and pythons understanding of the audio. With fewer error rates, it makes the translation of this audio even more meaningful as there is a general assumption that what is being transcribed is correct.

NGram Analysis
Above is my N Gram google analysis of the term “hula” overtime through google books. This visualization gives insight to the growth of education on hula over the past century, from the 1800s till now. Within this data, we can see the growth of hula in books following its banishment in the 1830s.
Waveform Analysis

At this point in the audio we see the waveform exhibits a strong and rhythmic pattern with noticeable peaks and valleys in accordance with the percussion and drumming. The energy levels appear relatively high, with continuous peaks within milliseconds of each other. This part of the audio occurs as an entrance part of the performance coming in with a strong vocal delivery and steady drumming.

This waveform shows a distinct section where the amplitude temporarily dips in the middle, possibly indicating a brief pause or change in intensity. At this point in the chant, the beat shifts from an entrance rhythm to a “1-2” rhythm for dancers to dance to. The high peaks represent moments in time where the drum is hit to the ground creating a louder, higher segment.

At the 45 second mark we see a variation in the amplitude, with a noticeable decrease in intensity toward the end. This waveform displays concluding section of the chant, with a natural decrease in energy before a new cycle of chanting begins.
